This presentation covers a case study analyzing how the powertrain design for a given application, optimized for a minimal total cost of ownership (TCO) under different time horizons, changes when the power semiconductor technology is varied. The optimization methodology and component modeling approaches will be discussed during the presentation. The results from this case study show how the semiconductor selection affects the optimal motor and transmission design and emphasize the benefits of adopting a complete powertrain optimization approach.
